On re-reading the call in my Editorial in the lastissue of ATLA, for all those with a genuine commitment to good science in the service of both human welfare and animal welfare, to work together and tell the truth [about animal experimentation and alternatives], I wondered if I was being rather naïve and unduly idealistic, given the state of the World around us, as revealed every day by the news media. Then I thought, don’t we need a lot more idealists — that is, individuals genuinely committed to creating a better world?
