Conference on new EU Directive
The new EU Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes, which must be implemented in the UK by 2013, will shape attitudes towards the use of animals in research.
A two-day conference at Northumbria University considered the challenges and opportunties presented by the changes, for animal wefare, science, ethics and society.
Michelle's talk concentrated on the effects the new legislation could have on the use of non-human primates. A copy of her lecture notes can be found here.
Other organisations who provded speakers included: Centre for Animals and Social Justice, the Home Office, Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, RSPCA, and UFAW.
